The recreation programs offers a richly varied program that includes active and spectator sports events, cultural events, crafts, camping, hiking, square dancing, extended vacations and a host of other social and leisure time activities. Programs are held on Tuesday's, Thursday's, Friday’s and Saturday’s.

This program, locally funded, offers many opportunities for developing social skills, increasing self-esteem and self-worth and building friendships. It also provides respite for families.

Program participants receive a monthly newsletter that lists a calendar of events.

 “Open Rec Nights”

Beginning in October, two Friday’s  per month will be “Open Rec Nights”  These Friday’s will give you the opportunity to decide what you want to do and with whom.  You may choose an evening activity or a day activity.  You choose the activity and you choose your friends.  We provide the staff and the transportation.

This program is a shared responsibility:

          YOU:

  • Choose a date and an activity before signing up for an activity.

  • Contact all your friends and agree on the date and the activity.

  • Designate one person as the contact person. That person will call and register the group on sign up day.

          WE:

  • Will provide staff and help you work out the details of the program.

  • Will provide transportation to and from a specified meeting place.

Examples are:  movies, dinner, bowling, dancing, concerts, sporting events, dating, double dating, girl’s night out, boy’s night out, etc., etc., etc.  So, start thinking now about what YOU want to do.  Look for open rec nights in the October newsletter.

All open rec nights will be open to a minimum of two people.  All of the above changes are temporary.   At the end of 3 months, we will evaluate the success of these programs.  If feedback and attendance are good we will make them a permanent part of our program.  So, please let us know what you think!

Notice:

Coping Meetings are held the first Wednesday of the month.  They are held at Arc Industries from 7:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. Please call Janet Keltgen for more info at 908-730-7827, extension 237.

Consider making a donation to the Marianne Memorial fund.  Your gift will go directly towards helping people in need attend recreation programs.  Send your check to The Arc of Hunterdon County, 1322 Route 31, Annandale, NJ  08801

Reminder:

We must have a current consent and release forms on file for all participants of the recreation program.  Also, please help us to keep our files and mailing list up to date by notifying the recreation department of any changes in your information.  You can e-mail the changes to pattij@archunterdon.org or call Patti at 908-730-7827, ext. 233.

The Best Buds Club is collecting old cell phones that are no longer used.  Instead of allowing your old cell phone to end up in a land fill where it will remain forever consider donating it to The Best Buds Club.  They will send it to an organization that will either recycle the phones in an environmentally safe manner or refurbish the phones.  The refurbished phones are then donated to organizations to be used for emergency purposes.  A collection box is located at the main office.

Wishing you a safe and happy summer!
