Residential Services

Arc of Hunterdon’s Residential Department currently provides supports to 51 individuals in 6 group homes and 8 apartments. We only accept referrals from the Division of Developmental Disabilities. Please see our Family Support Department for information on getting into services. Our focus is on teaching people to be as independent as possible in their homes and to be role model in social situations. Our trained staff also help people with their medical needs and if necessary with their money management.

Staff training consists of 2 weeks of classroom training upon entry to the field and 30 hours throughout the year. Training in the field is an on-going process as we travel with people through the course of their life. The rudiments of our staff skills we believe are patience, kindness and the ability to listen.

Beyond the basics of maintaining a home we work with people to achieve their dreams. As such we encourage recreational and social activities to broaden the scope of a person’s life. We work with individuals and their families and friends to find a balance point between safety and independence. Questions can be e-mailed to Matt Teeter, Director of Residential Supports.
